Where to stay in Camaguey
For many years, Camaguey had some of the worst hotel options anywhere in Cuba, both in terms of quality and quantity. Thankfully, all that has now changed and the city now has a good range of mid-range, characterful accommodation.
For their combination of character, comfort, reliability and location, we would generally recommend the Melia Gran or Melia Colon. Both hotels have been transformed since being taken over by the Melia group which also runs the more group orientated Hotel Innside on the outskirts of the city.
In addition to these hotels, there are a number of locally run, heritage-style hotels in the heart of Camaguey including the Camino del Hierro, El Marques, La Avellaneda & Hotel Santa Maria. All four hotels offer comfort, bags of character and a great central location but perhaps not quite the same reliability.
Camaguey also its fair share of casa particulars although this is one place in Cuba where we generally recommend that client’s opt for official hotel accommodation.
