Originally a Franciscan monastery, then a sisal plantation, the Hacienda Santa Cruz lay abandoned for a number of years before being purchased by a French couple and converted into a small hotel in 2007.

Beautifully restored throughout, the property combines the charm of the original structure with imaginative furnishings and décor that span a number of different eras.

Although the grounds are less extensive than some other hacienda properties, the gardens are still attractively laid out with plenty of quiet spots for guests to take themselves off to with a book.

For those who like to splash about there are 2 swimming pool, one of which is restricted to adults. The hacienda also has its own Spa with a wide variety of treatments available.

There are just 25 rooms in total, divided into 3 different categories – Deluxe, Junior Suite & Suite – but each one individually distinct in size, shape and décor.

The centre of Merida can easily be reached by car within 30 minutes while the property is also ideally located for anyone wishing to explore the many attractions south of the city such as Uxmal & the Convent Route.

Important Notes:

1) Due to its proximity to Merida, the Hacienda Santa Cruz is a popular destination for weddings, especially during high season between November & the end of April. This means that, typically on a Saturday, noise may be an issue late into the night. If you like a party, great, if not, it is probably best to avoid staying here over the weekend.

2) While the hotel features its own restaurant, it now closes at 5pm every day (last service at 4.45) meaning that clients either need to head into the city or arrange for (limited) dining nearby.
