Historically, many visitors to Cuba have simply passed through Santa Clara, only stopping long enough to see the main sights before continuing on their way.

As a result, accommodation options in Santa Clara have always been a bit thin on the ground, both in terms of hotels and casa particulares.

For those travellers who do take the time to overnight in Santa Clara (and there is certainly enough to see and do to merit such a stay), the lack of decent hotel accommodation makes staying at a casa particular a popular choice.

Although the city lacks much in the way of quality, those casas that do exist are often surprisingly good.

Indeed, Santa Clara is home to one of our favourite casa particulares anywhere in Cuba, Autentica Pergola. Located in the city centre but largely cut off from the noise of the city, this is as-good-a place as any to enjoy the whole casa particular ‘experience’ with its spacious rooms, delightful courtyard garden and rooftop terrace that leads to their in-house restaurant, one of the best in the city.

If Autentica Pergola is full, and it is a popular property, there are a handful of other pleasant casas nearby and all within walking distance of Parque Vidal in the heart of the city.
