As with the rest of Cuba, Cienfuegos has a large number of casa particulars to choose from although, with a couple of notable exceptions, it certainly doesn’t compare to Havana or Trinidad in terms of overall quantity or quality.
If quality of accommodation is important to you, we would therefore recommend staying in one of the city’s handful of hotels.
However, most visitors to Cienfuegos only spend a night or two in the city and, as with elsewhere in Cuba, staying in a casa will undoubtedly be a more personable experience as well as generally working out significantly cheaper.
If you do opt for a casa particular in Cienfuegos then, just as with hotels, a key consideration will be whether you choose to stay in the city centre or the Punta Gorda neighbourhood. If opting for Punta Gorda, a select number of casas enjoy wonderful settings directly on Cienfuegos Bay.
In terms of recommendations, if you wish to be based in the Punta Gorda neighbourhood then we would suggest Camila’s Hostal. If you would rather be in the city centre, our suggestion would always be Palacio Baron Balbin.
