Where to stay in Semuc Champey & Lanquin

Apart from its obvious, outstanding natural beauty, one of the most appealing features of Semuc Champey is that it is so utterly remote and cut off from the rest of Guatemala.

If there is a slight downside to this, it’s that accommodation options are somewhat limited, not so much in terms of quantity (there are several options dotted around the area) but certainly in terms of quality.

As the vast majority of visitors to Semuc Champey tend to be young, independent travellers, those hotels that do exist are firmly in the budget market and, more importantly, have a youthful vibe.

So, if you don’t mind basic accommodation and facilities plus the potential for a bit of youthful exuberance, staying in and around Semuc Champey will allow you to spend the day relaxing by the pools and not facing a short turnaround.

The alternative is to stay in Coban (3 hours’ drive each way) and visit on a day trip.
