Hacienda Uxmal

Uxmal, Mexico
Moderate Tourist

Although not an actual hacienda, as faux hotels go the Hacienda Uxmal is an attractive and convenient base from which to explore the world famous Uxmal ruins, the entrance to which is only a short walk away.

Built over fifty years ago, and with a surprisingly grand past guest list that includes Queen Elizabeth, the Hacienda Uxmal is a largely open plan hotel built around a central swimming pool and pleasant gardens.

Overlooking both is an outdoor terrace bar while the hotel restaurant is located within the main building. Depending on occupancy levels, there will often be live music at the bar during the evening.

The main part of the hotel is only 2 storey and features wide, open-air corridors that lead onto 82 rooms in total. There are a number of different room categories but all rooms are spacious and airy with lovely, tiled floors.

Location

Hacienda Uxmal Plantation & Museum, Carretera Federal 261, Uxmal, Yucatan, Mexico

Best:

The hotel is attractively designed around a central garden and pool area

Err:

The restaurant feels somewhat large and impersonal
