A guide to accommodation options in Bayamo & the Sierra Maestra

Where to stay in Bayamo

Cubans might have a soft spot for Bayamo, the cradle of the independence struggle, but they don’t appear to want anyone to visit, such is the chronic lack of accommodation.

The Hotel Royalton is the only real option in town and, as a result, books up a long way in advance while, a short drive from town, the Hotel Sierra Maestre, is just about acceptable as an alternative for an overnight stay.

As with elsewhere in Cuba, Bayamo has its fair share of casa particulares although standards are very modest.

Many visitors to Bayamo use the town as a base to visit La Plata but, for those who wish to be as close as possible, the Hotel Villa Santo Domingo is a comfortable option in an attractive setting although, again, it does book up a long way in advance.
