Where to stay in Holbox
With a certain degree of irony, the increasing number of visitors drawn to Holbox to escape some of the excesses of the Riviera Maya is leading to a number of new hotels sprouting up along the beach.
Still, the fact that it can only be accessed by a long drive followed by the ferry means Holbox is far less developed than much of the east coast and, for now at least, still cheaper than Tulum.
Although there are a couple of hotels on the beach in the actual town, the vast majority of beach properties are to be found heading east from town along the island’s north coast.
Of our 3 featured hotels, 2 are adjacent sister properties, the Villas HM Paraiso del Mar and more upmarket Villas HM Palapas del Mar. Both are around a 15-minute stroll from the shops, bars and restaurants of town.
Holbox Dream is the simplest of the 3 hotels and slightly closer to town.
