Ecoaldea Tanaj Hotel
Calakmul, Mexico
Located in the tiny community of Conhuas, Ecoaldea Tanaj is a charming hotel that acts as a comfortable base for visiting the ruins of Calakmul.
Close
Ecoaldea Tanaj is situated a short distance from the main east – west coast link road, at the start of the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve.
The world famous Maya ruins of Calakmul are located approximately an hour’s drive to the south while, nearby, are the far smaller but worthwhile sites of Chicanna & Becan. The Calakmul Bat Caves, another of the region’s big draws, is also just a short drive away.
The hotel itself is small and entirely sympathetic to its surroundings, with just 6 bungalows spread out within the forest. All 6 bungalows are very spacious, feature ensuite bathrooms (shower only) and offer a choice of king or twin beds.
In keeping with the sustainable ethos of the hotel, Ecoaldea Tanaj is not somewhere one should visit expecting lots of facilities and services because, well, there aren’t any. This is somewhere one stays to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, perhaps take in a bit of birding and from which to explore the aforementioned historic sites.
Breakfast is included in the palapa-style lounge / restaurant while lunch and dinner are also available.
